Good new / bad news

I passed my glucose screening which is terrific news since diabetes runs in my family.

However, my platelet count came back lower than every before - 125. It had gone up to 150 which was terrific coz that means no worries. I googled low platelet count and found out it is also called gestational thrombocytopenia. It could also be HELP and a bunch of other worrisome things.

CRAP!!

I started to read about HELLP and all those things but they were too scary. Totally freaked me out. What happens if we lose these guys? What happens if I really can't do it? If my body just isn't the place to grow babies. I don't know what I will do if this goes wrong. I read most cases of GT are benign (75%) but hell, when have the numbers ever worked in my favor. Oh I hate this, I really do.

  1. Oh EB - I'm sorry you have another thing to worry about. Pregnancy is so wrought with perils and pitfalls - it's really frightening. 75% of pregnant women with low platelet count are not at risk - so I'm hoping and praying that you're in that 75%. Those odds are pretty good. But I understand the worry and the anxiety. What did you doctor say? Are there other tests that they can do which will exclude HELLP and other scary diagnoses?
Please keep us abreast of any developments. Keeping you and your precious ones in my prayers. xxoo

  2. Thinking of you and hoping that your doc can provide some reassurance!

  3. How is your blood pressure? Did they test your liver enzymes? I know it's scary because the only way to treat it is to deliver the babies - and we don't want that yet. I'm sure the doctors will keep you under very close watch. Please stay positive and just keep taking care of yourself. You've made it this far!

  4. Blood pressure is great (perfect) the doc says and my iron is fine. No idea about my liver enzymes. I guess that's the next test I get to do!

  6. While it is good to be informed so you know what to look/watch for, stay away from Dr. Google, especially when pregnant and/or when the good doc adds stress to an already stressful situation :)

  7. My platlents were 100 when I delivered, and I managed to survive. I have thrombocytopeia (and had three successful vaginal deliveries without needing blood or plasma.) Try not to freak out!

  8. Oh hon, I'm so sorry you have one more burden on top of all your other worries!! But your docs are on top of this, and tracking you to make sure it isn't one of the yucky things. You have made it this far, DON'T push yourself at this point. Try not to consult Dr Google too much, he is crazy-making! Keep bugging your OB, and be kind to yourself.Thinking of you.
