zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The little buggers did it!!! They went to bed at 6pm and woke up at 5.30am. I was so grateful I kept kissing them and hugging them!!

I am reading the Ferber book and it says that kids/infants should wake up happy. Mine do not in any way. they wake up crying. I shall read further but what do yours do?

  1. Glad you finally are getting some sleep! That is the worst, and with twins it's x2. I don't know that D was particularly happy waking up, are your guys just crying to get attention? They don't have a huge repertoire yet, so this may be their way of getting you in the room? Good luck tonight!

  2. I did not ascribe to any one sleep method but with Ferber on this I agree: healthy, well rested children should wake up happy. And, if they are waking well before their parents and are in cribs, it is quite possible that they do actually awake happy but then grow agitated as they wait for someone to come get them, just as musicmakermomma suggested.

Congrats on almost 12 hours of uninterrupted time. It is revolutionary, no?

  3. Oh, so glad you got some sleep! Agree with previous commenters - yes, Henry wakes up happy when he's had enough sleep. If, however, I don't go get him within half-an-hour or so of him playing quietly in his crib, he'll start vocalizing to let me know he's really ready to start his day now! But naptimes - if he's had enough sleep, he wakes up happy, if not, it's crying & wailing every time.

  4. So glad to hear that you got some much-needed sleep!!

We have a mixed bag of waker-upers here. A has generally woken up happy since about 3 months of age. J...not so much...Perhaps in the last 2 months (they are now 21 months old) J will wake up either content or in a good mood about 3/4 of the time. Seriously. We asked the doctor about it, and it just seems to be his personality. He wants/needs/craves attention when he wakes up. He is quite content after sleeping if he wakes up in between DH and I. However, his night kicking and face-smacking have put the damper on any co-sleeping arrangements here!

  5. Yeah for sleep!!!

My little J always wakes up happy after 11 to 12 hours of sleep. She plays in her crib happily for about 30 minutes on her own, then starts to get a little louder after that. I think the trick for us is the nursery is secluded from the normal noises of our household and early on we introduced a sleep machine which we leave on the ocean. The first day we moved her from her bassinet in our room to her room she has slept through the night. We just are probably exceptionally lucky, but it has been a 9 month run which I hope continues. Good luck, I hope the long nights of uninterrupted sleep continue.

  6. Hey EB -- thinking of you and hoping the dark is continuing to lift and that the sleep continues. You've been on my mind these past few days, I know how really, really hard it can be when sleep isn't working, and work doesn't let us, and everything just seems so, so unrelentingly hard. Take care dear...if you were near I'd come over with some tea and something and hold the babies (how fun to think of holding a baby again), or take you all for a nice spring-time walk. Be well. Love,
    Elizabeth

  7. good for you! Mine usually wake up happy only if they've had enough sleep. If they wake up too soon from a nap, they're not happy. And usually it's just my son - my daughter is always pleasant, if not "happy" to wake up.
