Deadly

On Saturday morning I get to do my stuff. I sleep in, go to Weight Watch.ers and the gym.  By the time I get home the kids are usually out of control - hungry, dirty, still in PJs, dirty nappies.

No difference today.

However, today, I noticed there was a pillow in the corner of their room. Didn't think anything of it and we had to go out so I got the kids washed, dressed and fed.

Hours later I was tidying their room up and picked it up the pillow. My DH had thrown it on top of the humidifier. The humidifier was still on.

WTF.

My DH had put a pillow over the humidifier instead of moving it. I just can't get my head around this.

I can let the lazy dad thing go. Does it drive me mad and disgust me. Yes. But my kids haven't been in danger before. This week I interview for a new job. I will be on the road a great deal. My kids will be in his care.

What do I do?

  1. Dirt never killed anyone, switch off the humidifier when you have to leave the children with your husband, relax! I really hope that you get the job. You have to lower your standards re housework where your DH is concerned. Enjoy your children

  2. Occasionally, my DH does things I consider to be dangerous - like leaving his very hot cup of coffee within Scout's reach, or forgetting to lock the door to the garage (which Scout can open), or leaving a knife too close to the edge of the counter - things like that. I try, as calmly as I can, to point out the issue to DH, explain why it is dangerous (which is of course unnecessary, but it helps reinforce my point) and ask him not to do it again. I figure that eventually, I will cover most dangerous things he is likely to do. I actually also point out latent dangers - things that could POSSIBLY pose a danger in the proper circumstances, and I remind him to NOT let those circumstances occur. Other than that, I don't know what we can do.
