Dead. Beat.

I am so tired today. Yesterday I trekked out to NJ to see a friend of mine with the kids. The day started off warm and ended in freezing snow/rain and we were woefully unprepared. Also public transport is idiotically unhelpful to twin mums.

"The elevator is up those stairs and about half a mile that way so you'll miss your train if you try to get it. Better to walk down the stairs" With the double stroller. And the kids. How, exactly Mr officious uniform man?

Needless to say - aching muscles all over my body and dead beat tired.

I wish ... just once... that DH would say "don't worry, I'll take care of the kids, you rest" but he never does, not even when I'm ill. Not even after the C-Section.  So why do I resent him for it?

  1. Sorry it was such a hard day.

My guess, for what it's worth, is that DH is assuming that if you want help, you'll say, "DH, could you take care of the kids so I can rest?"

At least that's my understanding of the male species after many years of close study and reading "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus".

    Love,
    Maddy

  2. Sorry you are so beat. I agree with Maddy (after reading "Men are from Mars.." many years ago. One important addendum to Maddy's "could you take care of..." statement. From the book, I remember that "could" is one of those words men respond poorly to. It's ambiguous to them: yes, they COULD. But that does not mean that they will. If they say they will, then they have committed to something. After confirming with my husband about the 'could' phrasing many years ago, I started going with what the book suggested. "DH, I am very tired and need a rest. WILL you watch them while I rest for X hours." That demands a response. If he says no, you have every right to be ticked off! And tell him so. Men are from this strange world that if you do no complain or ask, then everything mush be al right with you. I will never understand it myself, but I try to learn the language so that we can live peacefully! :) Good luck and I hope you get some much-needed rest!

  3. Wow, what a nightmare! Can't believe you managed with so much stuff and two babies - it will get better (and worse!) as they can walk and carry things on their own. Your DH is a clone of mine I believe, both so blissfully unaware...and I too resent this. Hope it gets better hon.

  4. Thanks for the clarification, Brenda! I totally forgot that part! Good to be so specific, too (i.e. "X hours").
The lengths we must go to to get these boys to listen!!!
