go the f*ck to sleep

If you haven't listened to the little audio book on itunes please do - it's really funny.

My kids are 20 months old and their sleep has gone all over the place. 11pm, 3am, 5am,  - MAMMA!!!
Oh I'm so tired. Add to all this that the consulting gigs are rolling along at top speed and yours truly doesn't look so hot right now! Big BIG bags under my eyes, my body aches likes a mofo and I keep falling asleep at desks around the city no matter how many espresso's I drink.

I enjoy the quiet cuddles, when the rest of the world is fast asleep. Mimi snuggles up close and often slips into an adorable toddler slumber. Pip, no not so much. He wants the TV on. This morning we watched a documentary about a couple living on the River of No Return - hiking, filming and ... well, that was about it. Yesterday it was an advanced mathematics program.

Why are they not sleeping through the night???? Tomorrow I go to Dallas on work for two nights. It's just not right how I feel about two night's away :-}

Anyone got any words of wisdom?

  1. No wisdom, just sympathy! And those snuggles are the best, aren't they. Glad you are able to do some consulting but traveling away from your babies sounds like no fun!

  2. Oh boy, sleep issues are tough. Scout was doing great about going to bed and sleeping through the night. A few weeks ago though we'd put him to bed and within a minute, an adorable little boy in pj's, holding his blankie and lovey, would appear at the livingroom doorway. For 2 or 3 days we allowed him to stay up with us and watch TV for a while. After that I said no more, as adorable as he is, this is NOT setting a good precedent. So, as soon as that cute little boy appeared, we'd scoop him up and carry him back to his firetruck bed - crying and kicking. After about 3 days of the carryback/cry routine, he now goes to bed again without problem.

    It doesn't sound like your problem is the same - your kids wake up in the middle of the night. I don't want to sound mean, but could you ignore their cries and see if they will re-settle? Tough love is a personal choice, so I'm not pushing it, just wondering if you've tried it or are willing to try it.

  3. oh girl, I am right there with you. Mine still wake up numerous times each night and don't settle themselves until one of us helps them settle. I AM SO FRICKIN TIRED! I want another baby, but keep putting it off because I am so tired. ugh.

  4. Hi EB -- I hope you got lots and lots of good sleep in Dallas and now are enjoying a very sweet homecoming with the little ones. Funny how on work travel even though you're working really hard and dealing with clients morning, noon, and night, you still get way more sleep than at home (at least that is how it was for me when Liam was small). Thinking of you. Love,
    Elizabeth
